Claim: President Donald Trump has claimed that he has done more for women than any other president of the United States.
Rating: This claim is MOSTLY FALSE. The Trump administration has cut funding for women’s health services, and has also rolled back rules from the Obama administration to fight the gender wage gap. Currently, women are paid 82 cents for every $1 that a man makes.
Claim: Some Americans believe that Trump helps white supremacists by fueling racism in the United States and refusing to condemn white supremacist leaders and organizations.
Rating: This claim is MOSTLY TRUE. Trump enjoys support from white supremacist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and the Proud Boys. Although Trump has denounced these groups, he has done so only when pressured. In addition, he has shown tolerance for violent white supremacist groups through his public statements and Twitter account, even retweeting a video of a man chanting, “white power.”
Claim: President Trump has repeatedly claimed that Hunter Biden provided inappropriate access to the Barack Obama/Joe Biden administration to the Ukrainian government.
Rating: This claim is FALSE. There is no evidence that anyone in the Obama/Biden administration assisted Hunter Biden in his role as a board member of Burisma, an energy company based in Ukraine. In addition, Trump’s pushing the Ukrainian government to investigate the Bidens was the source of the impeachment proceedings against him.
Claim: Many Vietnamese-Americans believe that Trump’s immigration policies will not affect Vietnamese students and their opportunities to study in the United States. They believe that Trump’s immigration policies are focused solely on keeping out students from countries that sponsor terrorism. They also assume that because Trump is a Republican, he is therefore pro-Vietnamese.
Rating: This claim is FALSE. The Trump administration has recently introduced a new rule to limit visas for international students. This rule will severely affect international students currently studying in the United States, including 30,000 students from Vietnam.
Claim: Many Vietnamese-Americans believe President Donald Trump’s claim that President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton approved a federal disinformation campaign to tie Trump to Russia.
Rating: This claim is FALSE. This claim, which is the basis of the Obamagate conspiracy theory, is not based on U.S. intelligence sources. It’s based on unverified rumors from Russian intelligence, with no supporting evidence. It also draws attention away from a Senate Intelligence report that said that Russia did interfere in the 2016 election with the goal of electing Trump. Russia is currently interfering in the 2020 election.
Claim: President Donald Trump has claimed that masks are unnecessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as long as people receive frequent testing. Consequently, he refuses to wear masks at public events or to institute a national mask mandate.
Rating: This claim is FALSE. Public health experts, including experts in the Trump administration, state that masks are a powerful weapon to protect against COVID-19. Despite testing staffers daily for COVID-19, Trump, along with the First Lady and several top Trump advisors (all of whom do not wear masks regularly), have now contracted COVID-19. On Oct. 2, Trump was hospitalized for his illness and began receiving treatment. Currently, COVID-19 has killed over 214,000 Americans.
