Rating: This claim is FALSE. A review of the 2020 Democratic Party platform revealed that Democrats intend to counter China in multiple areas. Their platform mentioned China more than any other country. In comparison, the Republicans did not publish a platform for the 2020 election.
Claim: Trump avoided military service during the Vietnam War.
Rating: This claim is TRUE. Trump never served in the Vietnam War or in the military. For over a decade during the Vietnam War, Trump sought and received five deferments, including allegedly lying about a medical condition to avoid the draft during the height of the war in 1968.
Claim: In early September, journalist Bob Woodward disclosed that Trump told him that he intentionally downplayed COVID-19 to the public.
Rating: This claim is TRUE. CNN released recordings of private conversations between Trump and Woodward, in which Trump explicitly said he wanted to downplay the coronavirus.
Claim: Many Vietnamese Americans believe that Trump supported the Vietnam War.
Rating: This claim is FALSE. Trump has repeatedly made statements disapproving or insulting the US’s role in the Vietnam War.
Claim: Many Vietnamese Americans believe Trump is anti-communist because he is a member of the Republican Party, which many Vietnamese Americans perceive as being anti-communist.
Rating: This is HALF TRUE. While the Republican Party has been very adamant in its rhetoric that it is the anti-communist party, it is not clear that the party’s foreign policies have been more anti-communist than the Democratic Party.
Claim: Trump claims that the US has the lowest mortality rate in the world from COVID-19.
Rating: This claim is FALSE. The US has the fourth highest mortality rate in the world, as well as the most number of coronavirus cases for any country.
