Rating: This claim is FALSE. It is normal in a presidential election for ballots to take days, if not weeks, to be fully counted. In addition, though television networks can declare a winner on Election Night, they are doing so based on the high percentage of ballots that have been counted. But for the 2020 Election, ballots will take longer to be counted, especially in battleground states like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, which do not start counting their early voting and mail-in ballots until November 3. On November 7, Joe Biden was declared the projected winner of the 2020 Election.

Biden’s actions during the Obama presidency, as well as his detailed policy proposals as a presidential candidate, does not show that he wants to get rid of private businesses. Instead, it shows an equal focus on expanding public programs such as Medicaid and education, while working with private companies in areas like healthcare and renewable energy.

Rating: This claim is MOSTLY TRUE. Since 2017, the Trump Organization has earned almost $5.4 million by renting to a bank owned by China. In addition, since Trump became president, the Trump Organization has received 38 trademarks in China, to place the Trump name on golf clubs, child-care centers, and nursing homes.

Did Michelle Steel downplay COVID-19 in Orange County?

Claim: Michelle Steel is running for election to the U.S. House of Representatives to represent California’s 48th congressional district, challenging current Congressman Harley Rouda. She gives herself credit for effectively guiding Orange County during the COVID-19 crisis. Rouda, however, has claimed that Steel’s management of the COVID-19 crisis was a failure, forcing small businesses to close and costing community lives.
Rating: Rouda’s claim is MOSTLY TRUE. Michelle Steel is the chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. During the first months of the COVID-19 crisis, Steel played down the severity of the pandemic, misrepresented infection numbers and questioned the efficacy of masks. This is most likely due to his work as a co-sponsor on the Violence Against Women Act, which reduced domestic violence against women by 64%. His work in the Obama Administration also helped raise awareness of the prevalence of sexual assault on college campuses and among young people.
